Rather adorable, if underdeveloped -- Hallie, a freckled tomboy, meets Sondra, a disaffected girl ripe for a change. Sondra is drawn to Hallie, though a malicious and manipulative fellow camp counselor gets in the way. Though this cute little pulp was short and somewhat abrupt at times, I enjoyed the optimistic ending.
There's something lacking here, which is only truly obvious if you've read other March Hastings which are much much better. The Heat Of Day deserves kudos for having a happy ending (or least a somewhat upbeat one) during a time when books of this genre ended in melodramaor worse.
